Ethics in Clinical Practice was developed as a flexible resource for education in the field of clinical ethics. The authors intend it as an introduction to the multidisciplinary field of clinical ethics. The book is well laid out, with six introductory chapters, followed by 32 cases of clinical problems that encompass a wide array of pediatrics, surgery, medicine, and obstetrical problems, all well within the scope of problems that may be encountered directly or indirectly in the care of families.

The initial discussions of informed consent and the roles of surrogates are good, as is the quality of life discussion. Chapter 3 contains several helpful definitions and distinctions without becoming too pedantic.

Chapter 4 presents themes of ethical problems across the life span. It does not present issues through the life span in a frame of ethical problem solving, but is more of a discussion of current perspectives on these . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
