Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the rationale of public school teachers who chose not to strike during a called strike. The study examined the ratings of importance placed on each rationale by the majority of participants. A modified Delphi technique was used to gather the data. After three rounds of Delphi questioning, fifteen motives emerged as important reasons why teachers elected not to strike. A factor analysis revealed three major factors: antimilitant attitude; loyalty; and job satisfaction.
