TEACHER-BOARD NEGOTIATIONS IN INDIANA . . . WHAT FACILITATES AGREEMENT?

Abstract

The study was conducted to identify elements viewed by practitioners as facilitating agreement in local negotiations between teacher organizations and school boards. Ratings of elements were examined to determine whether significant differences existed by team membership or impasse experience. Nine elements were rated at least moderately important by all groups, while exhibiting no significant differences in the ratings between groups. Differences associated with impasse experience were found in the ratings of four elements. Differences associated with team membership were also found. Elements identified and the ratings of the elements by groups may prove useful to participants in future negotiations.
