Abstract

This paper describes a study made to determine whether government employees join unions for different reasons than workers in the private sector and whether white-collar and blue-collar workers' reasons for joining a union differ significantly. It was found that the sampled public sector workers joined for different reasons than did workers in private industry and that blue-and-white collar workers joined unions for substantially the same reasons.
