Abstract

The authors describe a study that found differing perceptions of the school principal's appropriate role in collective negotiations among various educational groups. School board chairmen and superintendents tended to see principals as part of management, while teachers, teacher association leaders, and the principals themselves identified the principal's role as one of close identification with the teachers. The authors recommend legislation clarifying the principal's role.
