Abstract

This paper is concerned with cases showing the situational problems that confront professors and educational institutions with regard to tenure. Traditionally, professors have enjoyed security in employment by virtue of academic tenure, but various problems have forced the institutions to alter their modes of operation. Although de facto tenure systems have existed for generations, the concept of de jure tenure is relatively recent, as discussed in this article.
