Abstract

This study focuses on the attitudes toward unions of clerical workers in state government agencies and identifies statistical relationships between attitudes toward unions and a variety of demographic, job satisfaction, and union experience variables. The results lend support to two general hypotheses. First, the more dissatisfied a state agency clerical worker is with the job, the more positive are that worker's attitudes toward unions. Secondly, workers who have previous direct and indirect positive experiences with unions tend to hold more favorable attitudes toward unions than both those who have no experience with unions and those who have negative experiences with unions.
