After an extraordinary effort of 2 years in data collection (all literature on orthodontic brackets and pictures of brackets), this book had been written by an editor/author, Haris Khan (Assistant Professor from Department of Orthodontics, College of Dentistry, University of Lahore, Pakistan).

The book is written in an easy-to-understand way that is neither too entangled for the postgraduate students nor condescending to the private practices and academicians. The author explains orthodontic brackets in a highly detailed narrative in 11 chapters, each covering a different aspect of orthodontic brackets that orthodontists would need to know to ensure their clinical success.

The first and second chapters include useful information about historical and material viewpoint of orthodontic brackets. The following four chapters focus on the selection of bracket bases (such as perforated, mesh type, micro-etched and plasma coated bases for mechanical and chemical retentions of stainless steel, plastic and ceramic brackets), bracket slots (such as 0.018 and 0.022 inch slots) and bracket prescriptions (such as Andrew, Roth, and MBT prescriptions), and auxiliary features (such as power arms and accessory slots). The seventh, eighth, and ninth chapters obtain step-by-step clinical instructions for bracket placement, bonding, and debonding procedures requiring very attention from beginning to end. In chapter 10, it is described that removal of the adhesive remnants would be done with different clinical instruments such as pliers, cutters, scalers, burs, discs, and lasers. The last chapter includes very useful and exhaustive information about recycling of orthodontic brackets.

In addition, this book is well-illustrated with high quality color figures, real-time pictures of different brackets and written with appropriate explanations, information, and clinical notes, which allows the student, the private practice, and the academician to predict clinical success.

As it is known, it is necessary for the orthodontist to keep in pace with rapid changing technology of orthodontic brackets to be a successful clinician. So that, periodic reviews like this book are necessary for the orthodontist to update his/her knowledge as well as to provide better comfort zone and decide a better treatment plan to the patients. Because the book contains sufficient information for all orthodontists to help improve care and understanding of orthodontic brackets, I recommend purchase if you feel inadequate about your knowledge of selection, placement, bonding, debonding, and recycling of orthodontic brackets. This book should be found in all orthodontist's library.
