Diabetic Nephropathy

Gerald C. Groggel, MD

Arch Fam Med. 1996;5(9):513-520.

Abstract

Diabetic nephropathy is an important microvascular complication of both insulindependent and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. It is the leading cause of end-stage renal disease. The natural course, pathogenesis, clinical evaluation, and treatment of diabetic nephropathy were reviewed, with special emphasis on recent important studies of glucose control and use of the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors in the treatment of diabetic nephropathy.
