Improving Mortality After Myocardial Infarction in Diabetics

Arch Fam Med. 1999;8:205.

Diabetic patients admitted with myocardial infarction were randomized to a conventional therapy or a group which receive insulin-glucose infusion upon admission then multidose subcutaneous insulin for 3 or more months. At one year 26.1% of the conventional care group had died compared to 18.6% in the intensive group. The lower mortality may follow from the significantly improved glycemic control in the intensive group. (J Am Coll Cardiol. 1995; 26:57-65.)
