Intensive Control Helps in Type II Diabetes
Arch Fam Med. 2000;9:140.
As has been shown in type I diabetes, this study (the United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes Study) provides evidence that tighter control (although admittedly still only modest control) was associated with reduced microvascular disease. Metform in overweight diabetic patients was associated with lower microvascular disease, myocardial infarction, and death. (Lancet. 1998;352:837-853, 854-865.)
