Poor Responders to Hormone Replacement Therapy

In a randomized study of treatment for osteoporosis, the authors analyzed patients who did not appear to have improved bone mineral density after 5 years of treatment with hormone replacement therapy. Patients who were smokers (P = .003) or who had low body weight (P = .028) had significant risk factors for lack of increase in bone density as measured by densitometry.
