AS PRESIDENT of the American Medical Association (AMA) and as a family physician, I am doubly pleased to introduce the first issue of the AMA's 10th and newest specialty journal, the Archives of Family Medicine. The publication of this new journal will prove to be an important event, both for the Association and for the specialty of family medicine.

It has been more than 65 years since the AMA introduced a new scientific journal (the Archives of Pathology, now the Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, in 1926). Of course we haven't been standing still since then. In the intervening years we have launched American Medical News, the weekly newspaper for physicians; American Medical Television, which in a new partnership with CNBC now produces 10 hours per week of medical and health programming for physicians and the public; and Living Well, a health magazine for consumers that is produced as . . .
