Two experienced clinical ethicists who work in different settings have combined their experience and insights to offer practical advice to aspiring ethics consultants. The four chapters of this book describe (1) the case consultation process; (2) the training, skills, and certification of ethics consultants; (3) how to set up practice; and (4) how to relate to ethics committees. They effectively accomplish this in 128 pages with enough detail to be helpful but not enough to be boring. They then flesh out the book with a 70-page appendix containing illustrative case reports and an excellent 22-page annotated bibliography that is divided into the same four topics as the chapters.
Chapter 1 is an excellent primer that describes in detail one model of the consultation process better than any previous description I have read. It includes sections on beginning the consultation, preparing to see the patient, seeing the patient, conducting family meetings
