REPORT OF A CASE
A 42-year-old woman, in good health, presented for evaluation of some nodules on her fingertips that had developed over the last 10 years, disfiguring her hands. Both her own and her family's histories were uninformative. Physical examination revealed smooth, purple-red, firm, large nodules (0.5 to 2 cm in diameter) involving the volar surface of the hands. They were localized on the tip of the first, second, and third fingers of the left hand; on the tip of all, except the fourth, fingers of the right hand; and at the base of two fingers of the right hand (Figure 1 through Figure 3).
A skin biopsy specimen was obtained from a lesion (Figure 4). Special stains were negative for acid-fast bacilli and fungi, and polarized light examination revealed no foreign bodies.
