Abstract
The collective bargaining legislation covering Canadian federal public servants allows the union to choose whether potential impasses in negotiations should be resolved by arbitration or the right to strike. This article measures the impact of the dispute resolution choice on wage outcomes, holding other environmental variables constant. Other things being equal, wage increases were significantly higher for unions negotiating under the strike option. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License.
