Abstract

Educational administrators must work with groups--from employee unions to constituent associations. A full appreciation of these groups and their motivation requires an understanding of some theories concerning human behavior in organizations. The authors present a hypothesis for interpreting group activity, based on salient court decisions and the work of some social theorists. These conclusions can be used by educational administrators in planning appropriate strategies for group interactions, including negotiation and mediation in collective bargaining environments.
