Abstract
This article examines the nascent movement to organize active-duty military personnel. Of interest are aspects of the military environment that are conducive to and in opposition to union organizational activities. Because the issues are controversial, attitudes of various parties are examined. Unions in the armed forces have existed for several years in certain Western European countries, and this experience is discussed. Various legal and constitutional issues are also of interest, such as access by unions to military bases and constitutionality of laws forbidding unionization. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License.
