Abstract

The author reviews two types of pressure on the parties to labor-management disputes, distinguishing real from bluff pressure. Two examples of bluff pressures used by mediators in two cases to effects contract settlements are presented, along with advice to negotiators on avoiding or minimizing such tactics.
