The lipophilicity of inhaled anesthetics. At the turn of the century, Meyer and Overton independently noted the strong correlation between the oil solubility of inhaled
gases and their anesthetic potency. Of twelve inhaled agents analyzed, five are identified: 1, nitrous oxide; 2, cyclopropane;
3, diethyl ether; 4, trichloroethylene; 5, thiomethoxyflurane.
