Sir,

We read with great interest the editorial published in the Journal of Orthodontic Research with the title "Which is the future of orthodontics? Self-ligating brackets, invisaligns, 3D imaging or miniscrews" by Dr. Hasan Kamak. [1] The author very well described about the utility and future prospects of these techniques and materials in a very crisp editorial. We are happy that the editor raised the most important issue of the orthodontics from his very first issue. We congratulate the members of the editorial board of this journal for taking initiative and pain for this novel work for the development of our profession. We feel that there is immense development in the field of orthodontics but most of these are for the comfort of orthodontist in doing orthodontic treatment, for example, from edgewise appliance to preadjusted edgewise appliance (PEA) to PEA with the self-ligation system. With such development in the science of orthodontics, there is a little or no reduction in treatment time for well-finished case and the cost of orthodontic treatment is increasing with the use of technology with great gusto. We believe that the future of orthodontics will truly depend upon the procedures that will reduce the treatment time and cost of orthodontic treatment. Now, the time has come for our profession to start fundamental research in these areas.
