Strain T118 was originally designated at the type strain for Rhodoferax ferrireducens by Finneran et al. 2003. Ramana & Sasikala 2009 proposed transferring the species to the genus Albidiferax. However, Kaden et al. 2014 asserts that strain T118 is better placed in the genus Rhodoferax as the type strain for Rhodoferax ferrireducens.
