The type strain of Leptospira interrogans (Stimson 1907) Wenyon 1926 was designated by the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names as ATCC 23581. However, it has been shown that ATCC 23581 does not represent an authentic culture of strain RGA. As a result, ATCC 43642, which has been derived from strain RGA, is designated as the type strain.
