The species Mycobacterium arupense was originally described and validly published by Cloud et al. 2006. Nouioui et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. In 2018, Gupta et al. established Mycobacterium arupense as the basonym of
Mycolicibacter arupensis (Cloud et al. 2006) Gupta et al. 2018
