Nomenclatural History

The species Bacillus stratosphericus was originally described and validly published by Shivaji et al. 2006.
The type strain of this species is the subject of a pending Request for an Opinion. It has been claimed that the
type strains of both Bacillus aerophilus and Bacillus stratosphericus were not available from any established culture collection, nor from the authors who originally described them.
