The genus Terribacillus was originally proposed and validly published by An et al. 2007. Krishnamurthi and Chakrabarti published an emended description of this genus in 2008. Krishnamurthi and Chakrabarti transferred the members of Kim et al. 2007 into this genus in 2008.
