The species Algicola sagamiensis was originally described and validly published by Nam et al. 2007. Nam et al. formed this name in 2007 by placing the species
Pseudoalteromonas sagamiensis Kobayashi et al. 2003
into the genus Algicola Ivanova et al. 2004.
