Nomenclatural History
The species Bifidobacterium animalis was originally described by Scardovi and Trovatelli 1974. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Masco et al. published an emended description of this species in 2004. Nouioui et al. elevated the subspecies Masco et al. 2004 to the rank of species to form this name in 2018.
