The species Clostridium aldenense was originally described by Warren et al. 2006. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 115 in 2007. In 2013, Yutin and Galperin established Clostridium aldenense as the basonym of
Lachnoclostridium aldenense (Warren et al. 2007) Yutin and Galperin 2013
. In 2020, Haas and Blanchard established Clostridium aldenense as the basonym of
Enterocloster aldenensis corrig. (Warren et al. 2007) Haas and Blanchard 2020
