Nomenclatural History
|
The species Lactobacillus sakei was originally described by Katagiri et al. 1934. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Trüper and De' Clari corrected this name from Lactobacillus sake (sic) to Lactobacillus sakei . Klein et al. published an emended description of this species in 1996. Kagermeier-Callaway and Lauer established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Lactobacillus bavaricus Stetter and Stetter 1980
in 1995. In 1996, Torriani et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
Lactobacillus sakei sakei corrig. (Katagiri et al. 1934) Torriani et al. 1996
. In 2020, Zheng et al. established Lactobacillus sakei as the basonym of
Latilactobacillus sakei (Katagiri et al. 1934) Zheng et al. 2020
.
