Nomenclatural History
The species Legionella pneumophila was originally described by Brenner et al. 1979. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Brenner et al. published an emended description of this species in 1988. In 1988, Brenner et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Brenner et al. 1979) Brenner et al. 1989 .
