The species Mycoplasma capricolum was originally described by Tully et al. 1974. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1993, Leach et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Tully et al. 1974) Leach et al. 1993 .
