Nomenclatural History
The species Prevotella ruminicola was originally described and validly published by Shah and Collins 1990. Avguštin et al. published an emended description of this species in 1997. A subsequent emendation was proposed by García-López et al. in 2019. Shah and Collins formed this name in 1990 by placing the species Bryant et al. 1958 (Approved Lists 1980) into the genus Shah and Collins 1990 emend. Sakamoto and Ohkuma 2012. In 1997, Avguštin et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Bryant et al. 1958) Avguštin et al. 1997 .
