Nomenclatural History	The species Propionibacterium freudenreichii was originally described by van Niel 1928. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Nouioui et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. In 1970, Moore and Holdeman reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form Propionibacterium freudenreichii freudenreichii van Niel 1928 .
