Nomenclatural History
The species Staphylococcus saprophyticus was originally described by Shaw et al. 1951. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Madhaiyan et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. In 1996, Hájek et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Fairbrother 1940) Shaw et al. 1951 (Approved Lists 1980) .
