Nomenclatural History
|
The species Streptomyces griseus was originally described by Waksman and Henrici 1948. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Liu et al. published an emended description of this species in 2005. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Nouioui et al. in 2018. In 1980, Skerman et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
Streptomyces griseus griseus (Krainsky 1914) Waksman and Henrici 1948 (Approved Lists 1980)
. Liu et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces caviscabies Goyer et al. 1996
in 2005. Liu et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces argenteolus Tresner et al. 1961 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2005. Liu et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces setonii (Millard and Burr 1926) Waksman 1953 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Kim et al. 2012
in 2005. Wu et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces cavourensis washingtonensis Skarbek and Brady 1978 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2008. Guo et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces erumpens Calot and Cercós 1963 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2008.
Kim et. al. 2012 has provided evidence that Streptomyces griseus is phylogenetically distinct from Streptomyces setonii and argues they should no longer be considered heterotypic synonyms.
