Nomenclatural History

This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 115 in 2007. The species Xanthomonas alfalfae was originally described by Riker et al. 1935. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 2006 the name was revived by Schaad et al.. In 2006, Schaad et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
