Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 115 in 2007. The subspecies Xanthomonas citri citri was originally described by Hasse 1915. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1989 the name was revived by Gabriel et al.. Schaad et al. published an emended description of this subspecies in 2006. In 2006, Schaad et al. reduced (ex Hasse 1915) Gabriel et al. 1989 emend. Constantin et al. 2016 to the rank of subspecies.
