Nomenclatural History
The subgenus Moraxella (Branhamella) was originally proposed by Bøvre 1979. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 83 in 2008. Bøvre transferred the members of Catlin 1970 emend. Reyn 1974 (Approved Lists 1980) into this subgenus in 1979.

Although Moraxella (Moraxella) appeared on the Approved Lists, it is now considered to be not validly published through a supplement to Judicial Opinion 83.
