Nomenclatural History
The species Ruegeria pelagia was originally described and validly published by Lee et al. 2007. Lai et al. published an emended description of this species in 2010. Lai et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Muramatsu et al. 2007 emend. Vandecandelaere et al. 2008 in 2010. In 2020, Hördt et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Lee et al. 2007) Hördt et al. 2020 .
