The genus Mucilaginibacter was originally proposed and validly published by Pankratov et al. 2007. Urai et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2008. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Baik et al. in 2010, Chen et al. in 2014 and Kim et al. in 2022.
