The genus Metascardovia was originally proposed by Okamoto et al. 2007. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 118 in 2007. Killer et al. transferred the members of this genus into
Alloscardovia Huys et al. 2007 emend. Killer et al. 2013
in 2013.
