The subspecies Novispirillum itersonii itersonii was originally described and validly published by Yoon et al. 2007. Yoon et al. formed this name in 2007 by placing the subspecies (Giesberger 1936) Hylemon et al. 1973 (Approved Lists 1980) into the species (Giesberger 1936) Yoon et al. 2007. In 2007, Yoon et al. reduced (Giesberger 1936) Yoon et al. 2007 to the rank of subspecies.
