The species Clostridium clostridiiforme was originally described by Kaneuchi et al. 1976. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Cato et al. corrected this name from (sic) to . In 2013, Yutin and Galperin established as the basonym of (Burri and Ankersmit 1906) Yutin and Galperin 2013 . In 2020, Haas and Blanchard established as the basonym of (Burri and Ankersmit 1906) Haas and Blanchard 2020 .
