Nomenclatural History
The species Xenorhabdus nematophilus was originally described by Thomas and Poinar 1979. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Euzeby and Boemare corrected this name from (sic) to . Thomas and Poinar formed this name in 1979 by placing the species Poinar and Thomas 1965 into the genus Thomas and Poinar 1979 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Akhurst 1983. In 1983, Akhurst reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form corrig. (Poinar and Thomas 1965) Akhurst 1983 .
