Nomenclatural History
The species Mycobacterium chelonei was originally described by Bergey et al. 1923. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Hill et al. corrected this name from (sic) to . Kim et al. published an emended description of this species in 2017. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Nouioui et al. in 2018. In 1992, Kusunoki and Ezaki reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form corrig. Bergey et al. 1923 (Approved Lists 1980) . In 2018, Gupta et al. established as the basonym of (Bergey et al. 1923) Gupta et al. 2018 .
