The species Acetobacter (Acetobacter) aceti was originally described by Yamada and Kondo 1984. This name was validly published by List Editor 1985. Yamada and Kondo formed this name in 1984 by placing the species (Pasteur 1864) Beijerinck 1898 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Hördt et al. 2020 into the subgenus Yamada and Kondo 1985.
