The species Bacillus thioparus was originally described by Pérez-Ibarra et al. 2007. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 117 in 2007. Upon validation, this name was corrected from Bacillus thioparus (sic) to Bacillus thioparans . In 2020, Patel and Gupta established Bacillus thioparus as the basonym of
Mesobacillus thioparans (Pérez-Ibarra et al. 2007) Patel and Gupta 2020
