The species Sinorhizobium americanus was originally described by Toledo et al. 2003. This name was validly published by Euzéby 2004. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 84 in 2008. Upon validation, this name was corrected from (sic) to . In 2013, Wang et al. established as the basonym of corrig. (Toledo et al. 2004) Wang et al. 2015 emend. Hördt et al. 2020 .
