Nomenclatural History

The species Rhodobacter megalophilus was originally described and validly published by Arunasri et al. 2008. Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. In 2019, Suresh et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
Luteovulum sphaeroides megalophilum (Arunasri et al. 2008) Suresh et al. 2020
.
Suresh et al. 2019 suggest that Rba. megalophilus be reclassified as a subspecies of Rba. sphaeroides, based on chemotaxonomic data.
